Green Lagoon is a haven of shallow, quiet, green and typically is a highlight of the northwest coast of the Big Island, very close to Araçatiba Cove. Green Lagoon is also a tourist nickname as Blue Lagoon, the geographical name is Long Island. With the tide in normal or full level is separated from the Big Island when the tide is low and is joined by narrow strip of sand and stones. It is one of the few places on the planet where greenish coral are found, hence the name. The marine fauna is a spectacle by the shallowness of its clear and calm waters.
The boats are anchored and visitors can descend to swim, float with "noodles" (foam floats) provided by the crews. The location is perfect to snorkel, relax, swim and snorkel along small fish ( "Sargentinhos" - scientific name Abudefduf) that are waiting for bread and food crumbs.
You can get here by schooner, trawler or boat departing from:
Abraham, the Stars Cove, Bananal, Sitio Forte and Araçatiba which is the nearest town. See more information on tours on the Big Island.
Also walking from Sitio Forte or Araçatiba the track T06. In Long Beach the corner has access to the trail to the Green Lagoon.
